News and Information about Team Velocity Sailing

Archive for November, 2008

Big thanks go out to Scott McCook from Singapore for sending me some pictures of the new Nacra 20 Aluminum Wingmast on a brand new ’09 model that was sent to them.  Apparently this mast section has been “extensively tested” in Europe and found to be on equal footing with the carbon stick.  I’ll reserve judgement until I sail it myself.

This weekend we’re having a little shin-dig on Lake Lanier.  Mike Krantz has graciously invited the EMSA cat fleet to join in the festivities.  Here’s the information that Mike has provided:

The Whitecapper is a PHRF event. However the Small Boat Distance Race
is a portsmouth race. And I (as incoming vice commodore) just made my
first executive decision to make the event open to all parties
interested….

We already have two A-cats and a Hobie 20 registered. Come join us!

I’ll suggest to RC to send the lasers, MC’s etc. on one lap around the
lake, and the multi’s will do two.

Beeze is supposed to be ON this weekend.

You are also welcome to stick around for the Low Country Boil on Sat
night – however I need dinner reservations by Wed to guarantee enough
food for everyone.

*/SMALL BOAT LONG DISTANCE RACE /*

*Saturday November 8^th (Noon Start) *

Held in conjunction with the Whitecapper and Low Country Boil Saturday
Nov 8^th

The race course will be similar to a big boat race course.

Finished will be scored as per the Handicap.

Call Jon Doyle (770-540-4018) to register and show up for skippers
meeting at 10:30AM to get course details.

Plan on racing a small boat such as a sailboard, laser or 420. *Boats
such as a Thistle will not launch *from the ramps due to low water.

Followed by this:

So far we’ve got two A-cats, two H20′s, and two N20′s. We need a couple
of F18′s to round out the mix – Nigel? Jason? Jeremy? Brett?

The plan is for a 12.5 mile distance race. If we finish in under 2
hours, we’ll add a 2nd lap.

The club is planning a low country boil on Sat night for anyone that
wants to stay over Sat night.

Furthermore, Mike has put together a google image track of the race course.  Its attached to this post.  Please note for all you “enterprising” skippers.  The lake levels are MUCH MUCH LOWER than what is pictured so don’t think that you can go ahead and take shortcuts without hitting red clay… dry red clay.
